Borders Books & Music® Stores in Georgia Accepting Book Donations for Troops’ Families
“Operation All the Time” Delivers Books to Georgia Children.
ATLANTA, Ga., May 1, 2003 — “When are you coming home?” is a question many children with parents serving in the military will be asking in the coming months. To help Georgia's military families who will be apart for six to 12 months, all Borders store locations in Georgia are collecting copies of the children's book, “I Love You All the Time,” for donation to military installations throughout the state, including Ft. Benning, Ft. Gordon and Ft. McPherson. The collection – “Operation All the Time – begins on Thursday, May 1, and will run through May 31. The donated books will be distributed through the Family Advocacy Programs on each base. “I Love You All the Time” reassures young children that the grown-ups in their lives love them no matter how busy they are, or where they are.
The idea for the “Operation All the Time” book drive originated with Cookie Bear Press, which decided to donate copies of “I Love You All the Time” to military families.
“Americans have shown great generosity and support for the soldiers stationed in Iraq. All of us at Cookie Bear Press are parents of young children, so we wanted to do something for the family members of deployed military personnel,” said Jennifer Elin Cole, co-author of the book and Georgia resident. “Donating 50 copies of “I Love You All the Time” to the Ft. Benning Family Advocacy Program was our way of hopefully easing a bit of the anxiety many families are experiencing. Even though the combat phase of the war fortunately appears to be over, there are hundreds of active duty and reservist soldiers from Georgia expected to be away from home for another six to 12 months.”
“Borders is so much more than just a retail store,” said Kristie Salerno Kent, Area Marketing Manager for Borders. “We are a part of our community and participating in “Operation All the Time” is a wonderful way for us to show our appreciation for the Georgia military and their families.”
Twin sisters Jessica Elin Hirschman and Jennifer Elin Cole founded Cookie Bear Press Inc. in 2000 with the publication of “I Love You All the Time” because the sisters wanted to share the message of the book with other parents. Using their previous work backgrounds in marketing, editing and freelance writing, they pooled their resources and talents together to create Cookie Bear Press. Cookie Bear Press currently publishes children’s picture books, coloring books and original post cards.
